Does the Bronson VC 10000 have built-in overload protection?

No, the VC 10000 has no built-in overload, short-circuit or overheat protection.

For operation at up to 40 A, fit suitable external protection such as an upstream fuse or circuit breaker. That keeps the test setup protected.

Are the carbon brushes on the VC 10000 replaceable?

Yes, the carbon brushes are a wear part and are available as spares through Bronson support.

On heavily used test benches the brushes wear over time. Replacing them restores clean contact with the winding, so you don't have to replace the unit.

Can the VC 10000 be set to a repeatable test voltage?

Yes, the VC 10000 adjusts 0–300 V steplessly and shows the value on the digital display.

That lets you return to the same test voltage for load and motor testing. Stepless control gives exact intermediate values instead of fixed steps.

Does the VC 10000 get hot in continuous operation?

No, thanks to the toroidal core and an efficiency of at least 90 %, it stays moderately warm in continuous use.

The low-loss toroidal design produces less waste heat at 10,000 W, so the variac suits stationary test benches in continuous duty.

Stepless control via wiper contact

The VC 10000 is built on a toroidal transformer with a continuous copper winding. A carbon wiper contact travels across the exposed winding surface and taps the voltage directly — no tap points, no switching steps. This adjusts the output smoothly from 0 to 300 V with no voltage jumps when you fine-tune the setting. A tap-switched transformer cannot deliver this kind of continuous, step-free curve.

Toroidal core with low losses

The toroidal geometry carries the magnetic flux through the core with minimal loss. Idle current and stray losses stay low, and the VC 10000 holds an efficiency of at least 90 %. Lower loss means less waste heat under a 10,000 W continuous load. The variac therefore runs in stationary continuous duty on a test bench without forced cooling.
