No, the VC 10000 has no built-in overload, short-circuit or overheat protection. For operation at up to 40 A, fit suitable external protection such as an upstream fuse or circuit breaker. That keeps the test setup protected.

Yes, the carbon brushes are a wear part and are available as spares through Bronson support. On heavily used test benches the brushes wear over time. Replacing them restores clean contact with the winding, so you don't have to replace the unit.

Yes, the VC 10000 adjusts 0–300 V steplessly and shows the value on the digital display. That lets you return to the same test voltage for load and motor testing. Stepless control gives exact intermediate values instead of fixed steps.
